Walti

Looking for a simpler YNAB alternative?

YNAB helps you decide what your money is for before you spend it. Walti keeps the daily part simple: note what comes in and what goes out, see where you stand this month, and get on with your day. If you want to stay on top of your money without keeping a detailed plan, Walti is the easier fit.

Why people choose Walti

If a detailed budget never became a habit, start smaller. In Walti you enter an amount and the expense is saved in seconds. Hold the + button to log something you buy often again, or open a new entry from the Lock Screen, Control Center or the Action Button on iOS 18 or later.

Your paycheck and other income go in the same way. Set a monthly budget and Overview shows what you've spent and what's left. Rent, bills and paydays can be set up once; Walti shows them when they're due and adds them only when you confirm. Widgets on the Home and Lock Screen show the month without opening the app, and Analytics compares your spending, income and net over three, six or twelve months.

On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, you can take a photo of a receipt and Walti fills in the store, total, date and category. The receipt is read on the phone and never leaves it.

Private by design

Walti has no account, no bank connection and no cloud sync. Your records are stored on the iPhone or iPad you use, the app contains no ads or analytics code, and its App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected”. To keep a copy or move to a new device, export a backup file from Settings and import it there.

When YNAB makes more sense

YNAB makes more sense if you want to assign every dollar before you spend it, or share a budget with a partner or family through YNAB Together. If you'd rather not keep a detailed plan, Walti gives you a simpler place to keep track of everyday money, with your records on your device.

Starting fresh with Walti

Walti doesn't import YNAB plans or transaction history. If you're happy to begin with this month, choose your currency, set a budget and add the payments that repeat, such as rent, subscriptions and your payday. YNAB lets you export your plan and transactions as CSV files from its web app, so you can keep your history for reference.

What's free

Logging expenses and income, the monthly budget, history, trends, widgets and backups are free, along with three recurring expenses and three receipt scans, and there are no ads. Premium is a one-time purchase that adds unlimited receipt scanning and recurring expenses, budgets per category, your own categories and payment methods, full analytics, Excel and CSV export, and every accent theme. There's no subscription.

Common questions

Can Walti replace YNAB?

For many people, yes. If you rely on assigning every dollar in advance or on a budget shared with family, YNAB's method suits that better. If you mainly want to know where your money goes each month and stay under a budget, Walti covers it with far less setup.

Can I bring my YNAB history into Walti?

No. Walti doesn't import YNAB plans or transactions, so you start with the current month. Export your history from YNAB's web app first if you want to keep a copy.

Can I use Walti on more than one device?

Walti runs on iPhone and iPad, but it doesn't sync. Each device keeps its own records; to copy them across, export a backup file on one and import it on the other. Importing only adds what the other device doesn't have yet.

Can I budget without linking my bank?

Yes. In Walti you type each expense and income yourself, which takes a few seconds, and set a monthly budget to see what's left. Nothing is ever connected to a bank.
